Some people riding in a car to riding in an airplane. “Turbulence are the potholes of the sky. As quickly as you go in one, you have to come out.  Otherwise it ain’t a pothole” was posted on the newsgroup Google Groups: rec.travel.air on August 7, 2000. “It’s been compared to potholes in the sky” was printed in a 2010 book. “‘Turbulence is only potholes in the sky’ - Fear of Flying Manual” was posted on Twitter by Alan Kaufman on January 15, 2000.
