"Waffles are Pancakes with bones” was posted on Twitter by Kenny Garcia on July 25, 2017. The saying doesn’t make literal sense because neither pancakes nor waffles have any bones. Perhaps the saying was influenced by signs reading “boneless chicken and waffles,” but that refers to “boneless chicken.” More likely is that the grid on waffles resembles “bones.”
“Pancakes are just boneless waffles” is a related saying. Similar sayings include “A waffle is like a pancake with a syrup trap,” “A waffle is just a more considerate pancake. It’s like, here, let me hold that syrup for you in these convenient boxes,” “Waffles are just pancakes with abs” and “Waffles are just pancakes with tiny bowls for syrup.”
