“We blame society, but we are society”

“We (all) blame society, but we are society” is a saying that has been printed on many images.

English sing Geri Halliwell (who was “Ginger Spice” of the Spice Girls) appeared on the television interview show Parkinson with Michael Parkinson on January 8, 1999. Halliwell said:

“My philosophy is, we all blame society, but we are society. We have the power, you and I, to make a difference.”

The saying became popular on Twitter in 2011, possibly independently of this interview. “yeah we do, so we blame society, but we are society” was posted on Twitter by ChadHappens on April 24, 2011. “we blame society but we are society” was posted on Twitter by clip on July 4, 2011. “RT @_thuggishkitty: We all blame Society but WE are society” was posted on Twitter by B.A.S.E on September 20, 2011. “We all blame society but we are society” was posted on Twitter by Kami Sasori 🖤🦂 on December 13, 2011. “We blame society, but we are society” was posted on Twitter by Jenna Viktoria on December 14, 2011.

“We blame society, but we are society”—without “all”—is the more popular form. This meme (shown in 2013) possibly popularized it.

Wikipedia: Geri Halliwell
Geraldine Estelle Horner (née Halliwell; born 6 August 1972), is an English singer, songwriter, author, actress, and philanthropist. She rose to prominence in the 1990s as Ginger Spice, a member of the girl group the Spice Girls. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, the Spice Girls are the best-selling female group of all time. Their slogan “girl power” was most closely associated with Halliwell, and her Union Jack dress from the 1997 Brit Awards also became an enduring symbol. Halliwell left the Spice Girls in 1998, citing exhaustion and creative differences, but rejoined when they reunited in 2007.

The rather eloquent, chatty ball of energy that is Geri Halliwell talks to Michael Parkinson about what lead her to leave the Spice Girls, as well as her background prior to joining the group.

” My philosphy is, we all blame society, but we are society, we have the power you and I to make a difference ” -A inspirational quote taken from Geri’s interview with Michael Parkinson, and just 1 reason why I think she is wonderful.

We blame society, but we are society by Wimer Alberto
In early January of 2013 I saw someone post the following picture on Instagram.

(“We blame society, but we are society” is shown over a photo of New York City.—ed.)

I do not know who created the image or how it began circulating around the Internet. Regardless of its origins, the image resonated with me.

Selfishness
Would agree that all humans are inherently selfish? In addition to this, would you say that all humans are guilty of everything that goes on in our society so long as they are not a direct victim? This would go along with the phrase “We blame society, but we are society.”
