Weed Candy

“Weed candy” is candy that is made with marijuana as an ingredient. The candy is often packaged to look like brand name candy, with just slightly different names. California police gave Halloween warnings in 2011 that children avoid the lookalike “weed candy.”

The term “weed candy” has been cited in print since at least 2004.

by Mark Miller

After April 20 (4/20), Halloween may be the most marijuana-friendly holiday, a day (and night) for wild unpredictability that goes hand-in-hand with the pot experience that welcomes encounters with the unknown. Not to mention all the tripped-out costumes to gawk at! But leave it to law enforcement to put a damper on the spooky season as the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Dept (LASD) is spreading the word to Southern California parents to be on the lookout for cannabis-laced candy – otherwise known as legal medical marijuana edibles sold at licensed dispensaries.

The LAPD Worries Over Weed Candy
CONNOR SIMPSON

The L.A.P.D. is concerned about a Halloween menace that hasn’t actually terrorized anyone yet: potheads giving out weed infused candy. They are warning the media about the potential dangers and warning signs of the dopest candy in your bag of loot.

“It doesn’t smell like straight bud,” Sgt. Glenn Walsh told ABC News, “but it has an odor to it consistent with marijuana, that skunk smell.” With the rise in marijuana dispensaries in L.A., police are concerned that some of the cooked offerings might make their way into kid’s treat bags.

Police Warn Local Parents About “Weed Candy”
Investigators are unsure if “weed candy” will merely be a short-term fad in the drug world or if it’ll be around for a while.

By Doug Shimell and David Chang |  Wednesday, Jan 2, 2013 |  Updated 4:31 PM EST
Police are warning parents about a growing trend in marijuana use popping up in local schools. It’s a mixture of marijuana and sugar-based liquids called “weed candy.”

The Limerick Police Department released the following statement on “Weed Candy” on their Facebook page:

Parents should be aware of an emerging trend of Marijuana use called, “Weed Candy”. Weed Candy is the result of a fine grinding of marijuana and a mixing process with glucose based liquids that are then allowed to harden into a rock like candy. More advanced preparation can make the illegal substance appear like traditional candies. Parents should be suspicious of unwrapped or re-wrapped candy.

“Weed Candy” dubbed newest street drug
Written by Charles Billi
Tampa, FL—Marijuana is a hot topic in this country.  At least 18 states have legalized pot in some form, but there’s always someone out there willing to take advantage, and the newest street treat is actually an old fashioned recipe - candy made out of pot.

“Well there’s different forms of it. There’s hard candy and taffy and gums, and it comes in all different colors and flavors,” says Cristal Bermudez -Nuñez, spokesperson for Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

“Weed candy”, as its called on the street, has been popping up in cities like Los Angeles, New York and Philly.
