“What famous Greek might have invented baseball?’/"Homer.”

A baseball riddle is:

Q: What famous Greek might have invented baseball?
A: Homer.

“That old Greek feller, Homer, the one who invented Baseball Batting averages, or something” was printed in 1925 newspapers. “What famous Greek may have invented baseball? Homer” was printed in Newsday (Long Island, NY) in 1990.

Wikipedia: Homer
Homer (Ancient Greek: Ὅμηρος [hómɛːros], Hómēros) is the name ascribed by the ancient Greeks to the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epic poems which are the central works of ancient Greek literature. The Iliad is set during the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of the city of Troy by a coalition of Greek states. It focuses on a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles lasting a few weeks during the last year of the war. The Odyssey focuses on the journey home of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, after the fall of Troy.

AS WAS once said by that old Greek feller, Homer, the one who invented Baseball Batting averages, or something, “Never trust your New Year’s Resolutions any further than you can throw a piano.”
