“What’s a skier’s favorite lunch meat?”/“Slalomi.”

The skiing term “slalom” is sometimes jokingly combined with “salami” to form the portmanteau word “slalami” or “slalomi.” “The Slalami Promise: No more or less than delicatessen-quality pure beef salami, compressed into skis that meet Olympic slalom standards” was posted on Twitter on August 14, 2011. “#skiingfood Slalomi Sandwiches” was posted on Twitter on October 22, 2011. “If I ran a butcher shop I would sell Slalomi in honor of the winter olympics” was posted on Twitter on January 28, 2014.

A riddle was posted on Twitter on June 23, 2014:

Q: What is a skier’s favorite lunch meat?
A: Slalomi!

Wikipedia: Slalom skiing
Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. Internationally, the sport is contested at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and at the Olympic Winter Games.

Wikipedia: Salami
Salami is a type of cured sausage consisting of fermented and air-dried meat, typically beef or pork. Historically, salami was popular among southern and central European peasants because it stores at room temperature for up to 40 days once cut, supplementing a potentially meager or inconsistent supply of fresh meat. Countries and regions across Europe make their own traditional varieties of salami.
