“What’s the only major difference between Cinco de Mayo and Saint Patrick’s Day?” (joke)

Many people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by drinking Guinness stout, and then celebrate Cinco de Mayo by drinking Corona beer. “Cinco de Mayo is all about drinking…. just like St. Patrick’s Day. Only difference is Corona’s vs. Guinness” was posted on Twitter on May 6, 2010. “Food, drinking and drunken fights. I guess the only difference between St Patrick’s and Cinco de Mayo is the color of the beer” was posted on Twitter on March 17, 2012. Cinco de Mayo has been called the “Mexican St. Patrick’s Day” since at least 1988.

Another difference—a joke—has been printed on many images. “What’s the difference between Cinco De Mayo and St. Patrick’s day? On St. Patrick’s day everyone wants to be Irish” was posted on Twitter on May 5, 2010. “What’s the difference between St Patrick’s Day and Cinco de Mayo? On Cinco de Mayo people don’t wish they were Mexican” was also posted on Twitter on May 5, 2010.

“The Difference Between Drinking on St. Patrick’s Day and Drinking on Cinco de Mayo, is That Nobody Pretends to Be Mexican” is an image that was posted on Reddit—Funny on March 5, 2012.

Wikipedia: Saint Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick (Irish: Lá Fhéile Pádraig, “the Day of the Festival of Patrick”), is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

Wikipedia: Cinco de Mayo
Cinco de Mayo (pronounced [ˈsiŋko ðe ˈmaʝo]; Spanish for “Fifth of May”) is an annual celebration held on May 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s difficult victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has taken on a significance beyond that in Mexico. In the U.S. the date has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture.
