“When I was your age, I had to walk through 10 feet of shag carpet to change the TV channel”

“When I was your age, I had to walk through 10 feet of shag carpet to change the TV channel” is a jocular saying that has been printed on many images. “I used to walk five miles to and from school, uphill both ways” is a classic parent joke that forms the basis of the TV joke.

“Kids today don’t know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel” was posted on Twitter by Kent Graham on October 26, 2014. The saying is often slightly changed—to “10 feet” of shag carpet, for example.
