“When you shop at a record store, you should know that all sales are vinyl”

Many stores (especially stores that sell used merchandise) have a no-return policy, “all sales are final.” A joke is that a used records store has a sign that says, “all sales are vinyl.”

“Your next stop might be around the corner, at the A-1 Record Shop, 439 East Sixth Street, between First Avenue and Avenue A, where ‘all sales are vinyl’” was published in The Atlantic Monthly in December 1997. “When I start my retro record shop, I’m calling it ‘All sales are Vinyl’” was posted on Twitter on May 12, 2009.

Let me refer you to the following link back to an article I wrote for the Atlantic Monthly called All Sales Are Vinyl, about shopping for the good stuff in the Village.

Things have changed a bit since ‘97, but most places are still there.

If I worked in a used record store I would tell every customer “all sales are vinyl” until I was fired.
It would be worth it.

If you own a record store, and don’t have a sign over the register that says ‘All Sales Are Vinyl”, what are you even doing with your life?
