“Who was the greatest female financier in the Bible?” (joke)

A popular Bible joke is:

Q: Who was the greatest female financier in the Bible?
A: Pharaoh’s daughter. She went down the the bank of the Nile and drew out a little prophet (profit).

The joke was cited in print in 1893, 1909 and 1947, but became popular on the Internet in 1999.

“Who was the wisest financial investor in the Bible?” is a similar joke.

22 June 1893, Daily Illinois State Register (Springfield, IL), “Gold Is Invincible,” pg. 3, col. 1:
Mr. Rhodes didn’t seem to remember that check given by Moses to Pharaoh on the Bank of the Red sea, or the way Pharaoh’s daughter got a little prophet out of the rushes on the Bank of the Nile.

3 November 1909, The Christian Science Monitor, “Egypt: The New and the Old,” pg. ?, col. 2:
The National Bank of Egypt is no doubt far more extensive in scope than that “bank of the Nile” out of whose “rushes,” the children love to remind us, Pharaoh’s daughter once “drew a little prophet.”

18 December 1947, The News (Van Nuys, CA), “Bible Quiz Contest,” pt. 2, pg. 8, col. 5:
What stumped the preachers were such questions and answers as these:

Who was the first banker mentioned in the Bible? Ans: Pharoah’s daughter, who went to the bank of the Nile and drew out a little prophet.

Miniature Moses
Today is the first of a series of seven sermons we’re going to have. I would like to talk today about “Miniature Moses.”
Let me ask you a question: Name the greatest female financier in the Bible? It was Pharaoh’s daughter. You know why? She went down to the bank… of the Nile… and drew out a little prophet.
