Why does one country use the term “lifts” and another country use the term “elevators”?

I think I’ve worked out why we call them ‘lifts’ and Americans call them ‘elevators’.
It’s because we’ve been raised differently.

In the USA we call them ELEVATORS…In the UNITED KINGDOM they Call them LIFTS…I guess cause we’re RAISED Differently!
