“Why do we live in a culture where everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything?”

Not everyone has an opinion on everything. However, in a democratic society, it’s sometimes assumed that everyone does have an opinion on everything.

It’s also so weird, I think, that everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything, and be able to defend it. Plenty of folks who aren’t interested in researching topics end up insisting on what little they do know, bc of pressure to have a stance on every issue.

That’s because we live in a culture where everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything. It’s not seen as acceptable to just say “I don’t know enough about the issue to say”.

I think one of the problems of access to infinite information is that due to that access everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything and to not have an opinion on something is to be ignorant

In the age of the internet everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything and in this case I don’t feel like I would add anything useful to the discourse and it’s all very complex and difficult to digest so I’m just gonna be quiet ?

One of the most overlooked issues online is that post Trump everyone is expected to have an opinion on everything and that leads to a lot of very popular people having extremely loud opinions that they never though about twice.

Can we normalize saying “I don’t know enough to have an opinion.”
