“World Changers Shaped Here” (SMU slogan)

Southern Methodist University (SMU) was founded in 1911 and is located in University Park, just outside of Dallas, Texas. SMU adopted the slogan “World Changers Shaped Here” in April 2013 to highlight its influence as an important research institution. The slogan received mostly positive reviews.

A similar slogan is “What Starts Here Changes the World,” the University of Texas at Austin slogan that was trademarked with a first use in 2004.

SMU—World Changers Shaped Here
As we turn the page on our first hundred years, a new era is beginning at SMU.
And we believe that this moment is the perfect time to communicate with our community, alumni and future students in a new way. Starting today, we are introducing an exciting articulation that clearly defines who SMU is and what we are committed to achieve.
Research told us that people are looking for a place to prepare students for real world success. We all know SMU delivers that. And now we will tell that story in a new way.
It revolves around 4 simple but powerful words. World Changers Shaped Here.

I like the new branding. SMU has certainly increased the level of visibility here in Dallas. Between the press from the Bush Library and the increased emphasis on branding it is starting to feel like SMU is reaching beyond the Park Cities bubble.

SMU’s new slogan is ‘World Changers Shaped Here’.  O_O It makes SMU sound like the Dollar Tree version of UT.

No offense SMU but your new slogan “World changers shaped here” is a rip-off of University of Texas’ “What starts here changes the world.”
