“You can throw in the towel or you can use it to wipe the sweat off your face”

"You have a choice. You can throw in the towel or you can use it to wipe the sweat off your face (and keep going)” is a motivational exercise saying that has been printed on many images. To “throw in the towel” means to quit. “You have a choice. You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off of your face” has been cited in print since at least 2003, when it was credited to a Gatorade (sports beverage) advertisement.

“Never throw in the towel. Use it to wipe off the sweat. Then keep on going” was posted on Twitter by Karen Salmansohn on May 1, 2011. This version has also been printed on several images.

Hello RFLers,
What are your favourite motivational quotes for runners?

I particularly love this one from a Gatorade ad:

“You have a choice. You can throw in the towel, or you can use it to wipe the sweat off of your face.”
