“You hate your job? There’s a support group that meets at the bar”

American actor and comedian Drew Carey is credited with the line:

“Oh, you hate your job? Why didn’t you say so? There’s a support group for that. It’s called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.”

The actual line is from The Drew Carey Show, “In Ramada Da Vida,” that first aired on September 30, 1998:

Kate: I hate my job!
Drew: Oh, you hate your job? Oh my God, why didn’t you say so? You know there’s a support group for that. It’s called EVERYBODY. They meet at the bar.

The line is frequently credited to American stand-up comedian George Carlin (1937-2008), but Carlin never said it.

Wikipedia: The Drew Carey SHow
The Drew Carey Show is an American sitcom that aired on ABC from 1995 to 2004, and was set in Cleveland, Ohio, and revolved around the retail office and home life of “everyman” Drew Carey, a fictionalized version of the actor.

Status: NOT SAID BY CARLIN
This is a line that Drew Carey said in The Drew Carey Show (season 4, episode 2: “In Ramada Da Vida”). The actual line is “Oh you hate your job? Oh my God, why didn’t you say so? You know there’s a support group for that. It’s called EVERYBODY. They meet at the bar!” And no, it wasn’t stolen from Carlin either; there’s absolutely no evidence that Carlin ever said, let alone first. It doesn’t show up in any of his works.
