“You lift, you lose” (drag racing adage)

“Ypu lift, you lose” is a drag racing adage that has been printed on T-shirts and has been used by many drivers. Drag racing driver Frank Hawley possibly popularized it, although he later said the opposite (“you lift to live to race another day”).

“You lift, you lose” was cited as a racing catchphrase in 2005.

While fans like to see cars that get a bit of air off the green light, lifting is a bad sign for Bodnarchuk.

“I hate lifting. I just say ‘if you lift you lose’ because the only time I’m going to lift is if I feel that I am absolutely losing control of the car,” she said.

REMEMBER, “if you lift, you lose!” Frank Hawley to me to me in Houston years ago.

Frank Hawley also told me that “if you lift you lose”,
then added “but if you don’t lift when you begin to lose control, you and the car might not live to fight another day.”

Frank must have changed his tune later in life. He definitely told me to lift and live to race another day. He totally left out “you lift, you lose”..
I can say that in my limited racing experiences, every time I have been in a situation where I needed to lift…..... I had already lost.

Even though Wayland is an experienced electric drag racer, as the old adage goes, “You lift, you lose.” It still looks ridiculously awesome though.
