The “apple of my eye” is an old idiom. “You’re the apple to my pie” is another apple saying that has been printed on many images. “You’re the apple in my pie” was printed in The Bakersfield Californian (Bakersfield, CA) on February 14, 1976. “You’re the Apple of My Pie” was printed in The Tribune (Seymour, IN) on November 4, 2003.
The American singer Auburn’s song “Perfect Two” (2009) contains the lyrics:
“Cause you’re the apple to my pie
You’re the straw to my berry
You’re the smoke to my high
And you’re the one I wanna marry.”
