As “a community bound by books,” as the BookPeople slogan says, marketing director Ellis is confident that the 33-year-old store he works for will make it.

“We’ll just continue to be the best bookstore in Texas,” he said.

BookPeople is truly the best bookstore in Texas (and maybe the world). They have a fabulous inventory of Austin and Texas authors as well as beautiful jewelry, stationary and gifts of all kinds. Don’t miss the funky toy section on the second floor. They have a coffeehouse in store, author visits, book groups and much more. BookPeople is truly a community bound by books.

Love Has Its Own Agenda
BookPeople’s slogan is “a community bound by books”. A group of people that came together for love of words, not to sell a product.

I’ve lived in both Austin and Dallas and there is no way BookPeople is the largest bookstore in Texas.  I’d guess it isn’t half as big as Half-Price Books flagship store in Dallas (Northwest Hwy near Central).  If you limit the discussion to new books only, they might have a case but only because big box book stores are closing left and right.

I’ve shopped BookPeople many times but I’ve never cared for it.  I know the folks in Austin like to think of themselves as somehow superior to the rest of Texas and maybe that’s why they like that bookstore so much, but I’ll take Half-Price any day and twice on Sunday.
