“Bubba likes it” (Lone Star Cafe slogan)

“Bubba likes it” is the slogan of the Lone Star Cafe (websites: http://www.lonestarcafetexas.com or http://www.bubbalikesit.com). The Lone Star originated in 1980 and the slogan was first used in 1982. The Lone Star Cafe expanded to 10 locations, only to go into and out of bankruptcy. The slogan, however, is well-remembered.

Lone Star Cafe Inc. has emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Austin-based restaurant chain spent nearly nine months reorganizing more than $2.4 million of debt.

Before filing for bankruptcy protection Aug. 22, Lone Star had taken on a $6 million expansion effort that added five restaurants and upgraded four others.

The chain—whose “Bubba Likes It” bumper stickers have graced countless Austin cars since the first restaurant opened in 1980—had 10 restaurants throughout Texas when it entered bankruptcy court.

Boy, Bubba ought to be proud.

Known for its rustic, good-old-boy style and its hearty steak-and-potatoes menu, the Austin-based Lone Star Cafe chain expects to open its 10th store—a new prototype restaurant—in mid-December at Lakeline Mall in Cedar Park.

An abbreviated version of the thematic “Bubba Likes It” eatery will open in April at Dell Diamond, coinciding with the 2001 home opener of the Round Rock Express minor-league baseball team.

The two newest locations and expected upgrades at its four Austin stores signal a renewed focus on the Austin area after a year of expanding into three other Texas cities, founding partner Rick Redmond says.

Since November 1999, Lone Star Cafe Inc. has opened new stores in New Braunfels, Katy and Conroe. All told, according to Redmond, the expansion represents about $6 million. The first Lone Star Cafe opened in 1980 in Austin.

Bubba is the archetypical redneck, po’bucker white trash who was somebody’s brother and earned the nickname ‘bubba’ because nodody could pronounce ‘brother’. One of the guys who got
Ned Beatty in “Deliverance” was probably called Bubbs.

Here in central Texas a lot of the shitkickers refer to one another as Bubba…they even use the term in advertising as in “The Lone Star Cafe—- Bubba likes it!”

I am looking for some Texas Lone Star cafe bumper stickers which have “Bubba Likes it ” on them. I can pick up and pay a few bucks for them. They are for a out of town friend and when I promised them I did not realize that the resturants here in town all have closed. Hopefully someone out there has a few and can part with a couple, thanks HankM.
