New York City has many people who are Jewish. The nicknames of “Jew York” (Jew + New York) and “Hymietown” have infrequently been used by some people.
In August 2018, online apps such as Snapchat, Citi Bike and Street Easy were hacked, and New York City was briefly called “Jewtropolis” (Jew + metropolis). The hack was quickly corrected, and “Jewtropolis” was replaced with “New York City” again.
Any reason Manhattan is now “Jewtropolis”???? @Snapchat

Whoever came up with Jewtropolis thought it was a solid own that would upset the Jews but most of us are just annoyed that they used such lazy wordplay because we’re actually funny and clever.

As The New York Times reports, users of a variety of popular apps and services, including Snapchat, awoke Thursday morning to find that New York City had been relabeled “Jewtropolis” on maps displayed in the apps. People on Twitter quickly posted screen shots of the maps, calling them racist and anti-Semitic.
Maps on Snapchat, Citi Bike, StreetEasy and even The New York Times all appeared to be affected.
All of those affected appeared to use embeddable maps from a third-party company called Mapbox.

OOPS! Snapchat Map shows New York City as JEWTROPOLIS – Here’s why it happened…
AUG. 30, 2018 2:43 PM BY THE RIGHT SCOOP
Snapchat is embroiled in a controversy today where their map program actually showed New York City as ‘Jewtropolis’.
Snapchat has apologized for the label, but also blamed it on the fault of third-party data they use in their mapping system being compromised.
Mapbox then released a statement on their website, explaining what happened in more detail:
Mapbox has a zero-tolerance policy against hate speech and any malicious edits to our maps. This morning, the label of “New York City” on our maps was vandalized. Within an hour, our team deleted and removed that information. The malicious edit was made by a source that attempted several other hateful edits. Our security team has confirmed no additional attempts were successful.
