Corona is a pale lager produced by Constellation Brands in Mexico for export to the United States. Corona is traditionally served with a wedge of lime or lemon in the neck of the bottle. In 2020, Coronaviruses made the news, and this riddle became popular:
Q: What goes great with a Coronavirus?
A: Lyme (Lime) disease.
The joke became popular (or “viral”) on January 22-23, 2020, and was probably thought of by several people independently. “Know what goes great with a Coronavirus? Lime disease” was posted on Reddit—Dadjokes on January 23, 2020. “What goes with the Coronavirus? Lyme Disease” was posted on Reddit—Jokes and “What goes great with a coronavirus? Lyme disease” were posted on Reddit—3amjokes on the same day.
The joke first appeared, however, in May 2013. “What’s really odd is that the new Coronavirus can be totally neutralised if you also get infected with Lyme disease. #science #fact” was posted on Twitter by Tiernan Douieb on May 12, 2013. “Had this great idea for a tweet that went ‘Coronavirus… something something… with Lyme Disease’ but like 3 people beat me to it. Damn” was posted on Twitter by Jim Downey on May 29, 2013.
“Hope this virus gets resolved before tick season starts, or we’ll be dealing with Corona with Lyme” is a similar joke.
Coronaviruses cause diseases in mammals and birds that include diarrhea in cows and pigs, and upper respiratory disease in chickens. In humans, the virus causes respiratory infections, often mild, but in rare cases potentially lethal. There are no vaccines or antiviral drugs that are approved for prevention or treatment. Coronaviruses belong to the subfamily Coronavirinae in the family Coronaviridae, in the order Nidovirales. Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome and with a nucleocapsid of helical symmetry. The genomic size of coronaviruses ranges from approximately 26 to 32 kilobases, the largest for an RNA virus.
Wikipedia: Corona (beer)
Corona Extra (stylized as Corona. Extra) is a pale lager produced by Cervecería Modelo in Mexico for domestic distribution and export to all other countries besides the United States, and by Constellation Brands in Mexico for export to the United States. The Corona brand is one of the top-selling beers worldwide. Outside Mexico, Corona is commonly served with a wedge of lime or lemon in the neck of the bottle to add tartness and flavor.
