Texatini (cocktail)

A “Texatini” cocktail is basically a “martini” (gin and vermouth) with tequila substituted for the gin. The “Texatini” was published in The El Paso Chile Company Margarita Cookbook (1998) by W. Park Kerr, but remains of limited popularity.
One recipe (below) makes a “Texatini” that is more “margarita” than “martini.”

Most of the recipes, naturally, are for libations, including the Texatini, a variation on the otherwise classic martini: tequila, dry vermouth and a garnish.

Kerr also includes recipes for other drinks and infused tequilas, as well as tequila-based food recipes like Margarita marinated cocktail olives, which we excerpt here (Also look for Kerr’s Nacional tequila soon.) Try one in a Tequilatini, or Kerr’s Texatini, made with silver or infused tequila and dry vermouth.

Iguana is known for its spectacular views of the lake from the huge hillside-perched patio. It features a seafood-friendly Tex-Mex (or Lake-Mex, as they prefer to call it) menu, and a full bar that leans heavily toward Mexican beers and anything tropical or made with tequila. It’s easy to pass an afternoon noshing on the likes of citrusy fajitas and carnitas, shrimp enchiladas, tuna ceviche, or the rest while watching the tiny boats skitter across the water’s surface below. Their excellent smoky chipotle salsa, some chips, and a Texatini (or two) make for the ultimate chill pill.
