‘Jesus is the reason for the season” is a saying that has been printed on many Christmas gift items. Some might have been thinking that shopping (consumerism) is the reason for the Christmas season.
     
“Jesus is the reason for the season” has been cited in print since at least 1981 and has been printed in many Christian advertisements.
     
“Treason is the reason for the season” (Independence Day) is a related saying, with an extra rhyme.
