“I bought an alcoholic ginger beer. He wasn’t happy about it”

“Buying an alcoholic ginger beer” can be interpreted as buying “alcoholic ginger beer,” or as buying an alcoholic a “ginger beer” (usually non-alcoholic), or as buying a beer for an “alcoholic ginger.” A joke was posted on Twitter by English writer and stand-up comedian Gary Delaney on December 11, 2011:

“I just bought an alcoholic ginger beer. He didn’t seem best pleased.”

Some have commented that an alcoholic ginger should have been pleased about the beer purchase. Gary Delaney tweeted on August 14, 2018, “There is also a 3rd meaning, though not one I deliberately put in there.  Ginger beer is also Cockney rhyming slang for queer, so you could interpret it as ‘I bought an alcoholic queer’. The meaning I was actually aiming for was ‘ buying a ginger beer for a disappointed alcoholic.’”

Similar jokes include “Bought a chicken to make sandwiches. It doesn’t. It shits on the floor,” ““I made a chicken salad today. Cheeky bastard didn’t even eat it,” “I made some fish tacos last night. But they just ignored them and swam away,” “I made some jerk chicken today. He didn’t even say ‘thank you’!” and “Last night I made a lamb curry, but apparently they prefer grass.”

Weird… I would think an alcoholic ginger would appreciate a free beer…

Why would a red haired alcoholic be upset you bought him beer though?

He’s either trying to quit or not at all secure in his manhood, i.e. homophob. Best I got for ya.
