“In Pagan times, during a plague, the ruler could be sacrificed to the gods”

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic left many people dissatisfied with politicians.

“In Pagan cultures during a plague the ruler could be sacrificed to the gods. I knew I always liked Paganism” was posted on Twitter by Raxacoricofallapatorian on March 23, 2020. “In Pagan cultures during a plague the ruler could be sacrificed to the gods. I knew I always liked Paganism” was posted on Facebook by Glen Roberts on March 24, 2020.

“In Pagan times, when there was a plague, the ruler was sacrificed to placate the gods. I’ve always had a soft spot for Pagans...” was posted on Facebook by Michelle Hutchinson on March 27, 2020. “In Pagan times, during a plague, the ruler could be sacrificed to the God’s.  Just saying this may apply in AB” was posted on Twitter by M.G. Duggan on April 27, 2020.

“During the Middle Ages, they celebrated the end of the plague with wine and orgies. Does anyone know if they have anything like that planned for the end of this one? (asking for a friend)” is a somewhat related saying.
