“The local rabbi invited me to a BBQ, but it was just a bris cut”

“Brisket” should not be confused with “bris cut,” but there are jokes.

”@UrProbsJewish Ur probably NOT Jewish if you spell Brisket ‘briscut’. Bris cut has an entirely different meaning” was posted on Twitter by Rose Herscovitch on November 22, 2012. “THE LOCAL RABBI INVITED ME TO A BBQ BUT IT WAS JUST A BRIS CUT” was posted on Facebook by Vince the Sign Guy on June 6, 2021.

Wikipedia: Brit Milah
The brit milah (Hebrew: בְּרִית מִילָה‎, pronounced [bʁit miˈla]; Ashkenazi pronunciation: [bʁis ˈmilə], “covenant of circumcision”; Yiddish pronunciation: bris [bʀɪs]) is a Jewish religious male circumcision ceremony. Today, it is performed by a mohel on the eighth day after the infant’s birth and is followed by a celebratory meal known as seudat mitzvah.

Wikipedia: Brisket
Brisket is a cut of meat from the breast or lower chest of beef or veal. The beef brisket is one of the nine beef primal cuts, though the definition of the cut differs internationally. The brisket muscles include the superficial and deep pectorals.

Wondering when circumcision—the bris-cut—became divorced from the celebratory barbecue—of bris-ket.

When I was growing up, our Jewish family mistakenly used our space laser to make to make BBQ chicken, found out from the mohel, he used his space laser to make a bris cut.

Whoever came up with the term circumcision really missed an opportunity to call it a “bris cut”
