“They keep saying that nobody wants to work anymore but really…  nobody wants to be overworked & underpaid anymore”

“They keep saying that ‘Nobody wants to work anymore’ but really just nobody wants to be overworked and underpaid anymore” is a work saying that has been printed on many images.

During the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, many people decided to quit their jobs. “I see a lot of people under the impression that “nobody wants to work anymore” is the reason places are struggling to find employees. The truth is, nobody wants to be overworked and underpaid anymore. Can you blame them? ” wrote fast food worker Angela Gatewood on Facebook on May 17, 2021. “NoBoDy WaNtS tO wOrK. No, nobody wants to be overworked and underpaid” was posted on X/Twitter by COYNE on February 4, 2022.

Last night I clocked out from my last shift as a tipped employee. Never again. Server wage is nowhere near enough by itself. Tips are very often few and far between these days. I can’t afford to keep serving people for free.
I’ve been told so many times that if I don’t like not getting paid I should just find a different job. So I did. The way I hear other tipped workers talking, they aren’t far behind. You see the store? Lights off at 8pm. It had to close early again due to a lack of staff.
I see a lot of people under the impression that “nobody wants to work anymore” is the reason places are struggling to find employees. The truth is, nobody wants to be overworked and underpaid anymore. Can you blame them?
If you don’t pay your servers, don’t be surprised when there is no one left to serve.

“Nobody wants to work anymore” is the refrain you’ll hear. (...) “I see a lot of people under the impression that ‘nobody wants to work anymore,’” said fast food worker Angela Gatewood in a Facebook post that went viral earlier this summer. “The truth is, nobody wants to be overworked and underpaid anymore. Can you blame them?”

This is what gets me about “nobody wants to work anymore”
When it’s really “nobody wants to be overworked for weeks on end while getting berated about missed quotas, with only the whiff of a promise that things will improve when more people get hired” https://twitter.com/VioletWanderers/status/1448824264359038979

No, nobody wants to be overworked and underpaid. People are getting sick of being taken advantage of by employers as CEO’s make millions or billions, and sick of being treated like trash by over entitled customers.

I hate how y’all say “nobody wants to work anymore” when it’s nobody wants to be overworked & underpaid. People rather hustle multiple streams of income than commit 40+ hours a week to a business that isn’t paying enough to make ends meet. The culture is changing, PAY MORE.
