Bleisure (business + leisure)

“Bleisure” (business + leisure) is a buzzword in the travel industry. “Bleisure” has been cited in print since at least 2008 and made many newspaper and magazine articles in 2010.

Bleisure?
(...)
Bliesure, being the blurring of business and leisure. The growing state of many who have decided to throw caution to the wind, work on the hoof, raise the roof and live a little. This maladie finds its friends amongst the Blackberries, mobile broadband, GSM, 3G, power surging, Notebook balancing act of working hobos, like me.

Apparently I’m not alone. Eurkea! I’m cured. I have Bleisure. Now can someone please tell me how to access the internet from the Tsar desert?

The business travellers of the future
By Mark Jones

THE LIFE BLENDERS
The business travellers of the present agonise about their work/life balance. The business travellers of the future will have put that nonsense behind them years ago.

They are the Life Blenders — individuals who have regained control over their lives by the simple process of accepting that their working and home lives are inextricably linked. And they’re creating a very lucrative new market with a very ugly name: bleisure — business and leisure combined.

Chicago Venue Spotlight: The James Encourages Business and Leisure
by Christina Edgerton April 14, 2010
All event planners know that getting down to business is what makes the world go round and keeps you with a job, but often times even the most staunch businessman needs to be reminded to take some time to relax.  The James hotel in Chicago has taken a creative approach to this.

While most hotels offer wake up calls, The James has taken it a step further with a new service called “Shut Down” calls. These calls are made in the evening to remind guests to shut off their laptops and cell phones and go out and enjoy the sights or just relax. This service is just one part of their “Weekday Bleisure” package (business + leisure=bleisure), which is designed for the business person who enjoys a little relaxation and fun while traveling for meetings and business ventures.

In the post-recession era, the hot new business term may be “bleisure travel.”

The expression describes what happens when business travelers combine work with leisure, either by bringing along family or by taking extra time after a conference to relax on the beach or a fishing boat.

“This is a trend we’ve seen pick up for the business traveler over the last several years,” said Nick Vournakis, senior vice president at Carlson Wagonlit Travel, a travel management company.

It’s known in the travel trade as “bleisure,” or “blending leisure and business as a way to make the throes of business travel a little bit more palatable, a little bit more acceptable,” Mr. Vournakis said.

Staycation, Bleisure, Honeyteering And Other Fantastic Made-Up Travel Words

NEW YORK (AP) — Hotels advertise “bleisure” packages. The Thai Tourism Authority is promoting “honeyteering.” And a Mississippi TV anchor told advocates of gay equality to “go on gaycation.”

Whatever you’re doing on vacation, chances are there’s a made-up word to describe it. Combine honeymoon and volunteering, you get honeyteering. Combine business and leisure, you get bleisure. Add glamour to a camping trip with wine, steak and scented candles, and you’re glamping.
