Above, a 1934 plaque from the Big Apple Night Club at West 135th Street and Seventh Avenue in Harlem. Discarded as trash in 2006. Now a Popeyes fast food restaurant on Google Maps.

AQUA (Ascan Avenue/Queens Boulevard/Union Turnpike/Austin Street in Forest Hills)

AQUA (an acronym nickname for the area of Forest Hills in Queens bordered by Ascan Avenue, Queens Boulevard, Union Turnpike, and Austin Street) was invented by the blog “Forest Hills 72” on February 18, 2007. The neighborhood nickname hasn’t been picked up by many other blogs, but the long usage by “Forest Hills 72” has spread the term—somewhat—among Queens residents.

Welcome to Forest Hills 72
Here are the areas of Forest Hills and what you need to know about them.
1. AQUA. The area bordered by Ascan Ave, Queens Blvd. Union Turnpike, Austin St. It’s a lame name, but I couldn’t think of anything else. Anyway, this is where I live and so do a lot of people with toddlers. It’s a similar demographic to Brooklyn’s Park Slope. Advantages - proximity to Ascan/Austin intersection. PS 101 School in the Gardens. Close to LIRR (best way to get in/out of city), Great looking pre-wars. Disadvantages: Parking. Other areas are jealous of: Nick’s Pizza.

Hey everybody, I’m Peter. I’ve lived in Forest Hills most of my life.
Location: Forest Hills - AQUA! (Ascan, Queens, Union, Austin) I wonder who coined that. According to my co-op’s newsletter, that is the term of choice for this area of Forest Hills. Doesn’t have quite the same ring as a Dumbo, Tribeca, Soho or (quiver) Nolita, but we’ll see where it goes.

AQUA Week at Forest Hills 72!
Just got around to reading the comments. In honor of your rude insulting bashing of an area nickname (Cord Meyer, Van Court and The Gardens are allowed to have their own nicknames because there were already there and we can’t change anything ourselves), I’m posting only in nicknames this week. You can figure them out. If you don’t like it, buy a Queens Courier and get the f off the blog. Enjoy the Shalamar Diner review - I heard it got four pushcarts.
Leading off of course, is AQUA: Just Like Mother’s now delivers.
In Metarchie News: My Kitchen is expanding into the Judo place next door.
In the Four Digit district: Terra Sana looks just about complete.
In NorFor News, the smoke shop next to the old Rockaway Bedding now has a cool little video rental machine. Unfortunately, the newest release is Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
In Gardens news, I hope the 101 fundraiser went well - which got all of one legitimate comment to Sorisi’s 55. If, like me, you couldn’t attend but want to support the schools arts program, please visit pa101.org. Your apartment will keep its value thanks to 101 and 196. Stop writing about what an idiot I am for coming up with something creative, and write a check for $10.

AQUA is a silly acronym created by a blogger on another site. Only use it if you want to constantly explain what it means.
I agree it is goofy (like SoBro for South Bronx). Figured no one uses it, though it does pinpoint the area my wife and I are focused on. Anything good or bad you can share with us about Austin Gardens would be much appreciated.
