“A spoon is just a bowl on a stick”

“A spoon is just a bowl on a stick” has been cited in print since at least 1995 (“a spoon is a sort of bowl on a stick”). “They’re a bowl on a stick” is a lyric from “The Spoon Song” (2013) by Liam Payne.

“A spoon is a bowl on a stick that is used to eat from a larger bowl” was posted on Twitter on June 1, 2014.

“A spoon is just a small bowl with a handle” is a similar saying about spoons.

Does Tabletop know that a spoon, with its concavity, is more like a bowl than a knife is? We can see that a spoon is a sort of bowl on a stick, but that is utterly unknown to Tabletop.

Christian, you wanted an alternative OE word for “a bowl on a stick”, right?  Try “hlaedel” (Modern English “ladle”), from “hladan”.

Even soup is not eaten with the “spoon” going into the mouth.  The Chinese spoon is actually a small bowl on a stick that is designed to be held to the lips as the soup is poured into the mouth.  Of course, the chinese see nothing wrong with picking up the bowl and going directly from that.
