“Big Apple or Die Tryin‘” (Pee-wee’s Big Holiday film, 2016)

“Big Apple or Die Tryin’” is what a sign said on the back of fictional character Pee-wee Herman’s car in the movie Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (2016). Herman, a resident of Fairville, wanted to travel to New York City to attend a birthday party.
“Enjoy the Big Apple ... or die trying!!” had been posted on a blog on July 4, 2007, but the “Big Apple or Die Trying” saying was not widely known before the 2016 movie.
Wikipedia: Pee-wee’s Big Holiday
Pee-wee’s Big Holiday is a 2016 American adventure comedy film directed by John Lee and written by Paul Reubens and Paul Rust. The film stars Reubens as Pee-wee Herman. The film was released on March 18, 2016, on Netflix.
Pee-wee Herman is a resident of the small town of Fairville and works as a cook at Dan’s Diner, where he is well liked by the locals and revered for his cooking. He meets and befriends actor Joe Manganiello, who convinces Pee-wee to leave Fairville for the first time in his life to travel to New York City and be a guest at Joe’s birthday party.

He handed me a card, addressed to my name at And I Am Not Lying, For Real. It read “Dear Mr. Simmermon: Enjoy the Big Apple ... or die trying!! Put some Johnny Cash on the jukebox & have a round on me ...” There was a twenty dollar bill inside.
