“Destructoporn” (or “destructo-porn”) is the filming or photographing of the destruction of a building. The building might have had some historic community or personal value, or the building might have been so large that there is some interest in seeing its destruction. “Destructoporn” videos often are put on blogs and YouTube.
The term “destructoporn” was popularized (and possibly coined) by the New York City real estate blog Curbed NY in January 2007.

Destructoporn: Caught in the (Illegal) Act in BK
Tuesday, January 16, 2007, by Joey
The Concerned Citizens of Greenwood Heights, a group that knows a thing or two about sparring with developers and bringing bizarre situations to light (see 229 vs. 231, 1504 8th Avenue), seems to be employing a new weapon in their efforts to curb illegal goings-on. No longer content to rely on 311 complaints and emails to politicians, the group is now breaking out the DV cameras and videotaping demolition and construction that runs afoul of the law. The videos wind up on YouTube, and the group provides links in their emails to the City and DoB.

Grand Street Foreplay Destructoporn
Wednesday, January 31, 2007, by Robert
Some news from Grand and Driggs, where the property at 225 Grand is slated to become some kind of tall building. Like others keeping tabs on demolitions and developments in the South Slope and Dumbo, turns out the neighbors have cameras and have them trained on the building where pre-demolition work (and asbestos removal) has started.

The razing of Williamsburg’s Old Dutch Mustard factory was so traumatic (or photogenic) that when the wrecking ball arrived we provided almost daily updates of the destructoporn. But that was then.

Preceded by fireworks (and onlookers paying an admission fee), the 39-year-old Texas Stadium was reduced to rubble this morning. Jerry Jones is a secular Shiva: destroying, in order to re-create.
