Fweedom (freedom + weed)

“Fweedom” (freedom + weed) is a word used by people who want to legalize marijuana in the United States. At the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert “Rally to Restore Sanity” in Washington, DC, on October 30, 2010, a person displayed a “FWEEDOM” sign (with “weed” in green). The Seattle (WA) Medicinal Marijuana Collective is known as the Fweedom Collective.
“Fweedom” has been cited in print since at least 2001, but was infrequently used before 2009-2010.
A similarly formed word is “freadom” (freedom + read).

420’s pretty neat… in my town people gather in the middle of downtown and smoke weed. Last year, I sat down, packed a bowl, sparked it while waving at a cop, passed it to the girl next to me, who was arrested by that same cop. WTF? I’ve been pondering what the hell that was all about ever since… I guess I was wearing a giant weedleaf mask that said “fweedom” on it. Maybe being extremely blatant will keep you safe?

So now that sanity’s restored, what’s next?
And the inevitable marijuana legalization sign as prescribed by law, “Fweedom,” with the “weed” in green. Dude.

Val Ibarra, a 29 year old San Franciscan (above image) holds up a “Fweedom” sign, obviously in support of legalizing marijuana. But what Ms. Ibarra can’t seem to understand, is that by using and/or supporting the use of marijuana, she is morally and financially supporting the drug cartels in Mexico, that are responsible for the brutal murders of almost 3,000 people, since Mexican President Philipe Calderone has attempted to crack down on the drug trade in his country. While she may think that the legalization of drugs will end the need for these drug lords, she also misses the point that drug use and possession have already been decriminalized in Mexico.
