The saying “fight poverty” doesn’t mean to attack poor people, but there are jokes.
     
“I saw an amazing looking girl the other day wearing a T-Shirt that said ‘Fight Poverty’. So to impress her, I ran over and punched a tramp” was posted on X/Twitter by Herb on June 27, 2010. “I saw a woman in the street holding up a sign saying ‘Fight Poverty’. So just to impress her, i punched a homeless person in the face” was posted on X/Twitter by chris on September 15, 2010. “i saw a fit girl on the tube wearing a t-shirt that said ‘FIGHT POVERTY’ so to impress her i walked over and punched a tramp! #boomboom” was posted on X/Twitter by Carl Palmer on December 23, 2010. Authorship of the joke is unknown.
   
“I try and do anything I can to fight poverty—only the other day I punched a tramp” (from the television show Milton Jones’s House of Rooms) was printed in the Liverpool (UK) Echo on January 14, 2012.
