Believe it or not, cops can get suspicious if they see a baseball bat and a baseball bat only. This happened when I was visiting the US and the guy I was staying at had a baseball bat in his backseat. He said he played baseball but in reality it was for safety since he lived close to a dangerous neighborhood. He also held us for a few extra minutes because of it. Since I don’t live in the US I don’t know if having only a baseball bat gives probable cause to search a vehicle or alike. A glove and a ball doesn’t cost much either so I’d say it’s worth it. Hell, you might even like the sport!

ULPT: if you’re going to carry a bat in your car as a defense weapon always carry a glove and a ball too. This way the cops won’t think you’re carrying it purposely as a weapon but instead just happened to have it on you for hobby purposes

I often hear, “If you’re going to keep a baseball bat in your car for protection, make sure you keep a baseball glove and ball in there too. If something goes down this way the cops won’t say it was premeditated.” Is this valid advice?
I’ve heard this numerous times over the years on Reddit but I’ve never actually seen anyone with a legal background substantiate it.
