“I’m filthy, stinking rich. Well, two out of three ain’t bad” is a jocular saying that has been printed on many images. The speaker is surely filthy and stinking, but not rich.
“Filthy Stinking Rich Two out of three ain’t bad” was printed in the Waterloo (IA) Courier on June 27, 1993. “Filthy. Stinking. Rich. Two out of three ain’t bad” was printed in the Toronto (ON) Star on November 5, 1993. “Filthy, stinking, rich. Two out of three ain’t bad!” was posted on the newsgroup news.software.readers on June 8, 1996.
Authorship is unknown. “I’m filthy, stinking rich - well, two out of three aint bad. Emo Philips” was posted on Twitter by Simon T on June 8, 2011. “I’m filthy, stinking rich. Well, two out of three ain’t bad.-Emo Philips” was posted on Twitter by Isra Hashmi on January 26, 2012. American stand-up comedian Emo Philips is often credited for this joke, but there is no evidence associating him with it before 2011.
“I’m just one step away from being filthy rich. All I need now is money” is a similar joke.
