New World Odor (New World Order + odor)

“New World Odor” is a pun on “New World Order” that has been printed on many images. U.S. President George H. W. Bush used the term “new world order” in a speech before Congress on September 11, 1990, and “new world odor” was used soon after that.
“Life in The New World Odor” was printed in the Albuquerque (NM) Journal on November 27, 1990. “Dubbing the gulf conflict Bush’s ‘New World Odor’” was printed in the Austin (TX) American-Statesman on February 9, 1991. “The new world odor” (1992) is the title of a song by Fred Wei-han Ho.
American artist Shepard Fairey did an artwork titled “New World Odor” (2005). A person is shown in a gas mask, and the following text written on the bottom is, “I DO NOT WANT MY TAXES TO PAY FOR THE NEW WORLD ODOR.”
Wikipedia: New World Order (conspiracy theory)
The New World Order (NWO) is a conspiracy theory which hypothesizes a secretly emerging totalitarian world government.
The common theme in conspiracy theories about a New World Order is that a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an authoritarian one-world government—which will replace sovereign nation-states—and an all-encompassing propaganda whose ideology hails the establishment of the New World Order as the culmination of history’s progress.
Wikiquote: George H. W. Bush
George Herbert Walker Bush (June 12, 1924 – November 30, 2018) was an American politician who served as the 41st President of the United States (1989–93), and the 43rd Vice President of the United States (1981–89).
Clearly, no longer can a dictator count on East-West confrontation to stymie concerted United Nations action against aggression. A new partnership of nations has begun. And we stand today at a unique and extraordinary moment. The crisis in the Persian Gulf, as grave as it is, also offers a rare opportunity to move toward an historic period of cooperation. Out of these troubled times, our fifth objective — a new world order — can emerge: a new era, freer from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and more secure in the quest for peace. An era in which the nations of the world, east and west, north and south, can prosper and live in harmony.

Goethals, Georgia Jones Sorenson, and James MacGregor Burns, p. 1776 and Confrontation in the Gulf; Transcript of President’s Address to Joint Session of Congress, 12 September 1990, The New York Times.

The rhetoric is already harsh. Dubbing the gulf conflict Bush’s “New World Odor,” activists’ own damage assessments read like a countdown to Apocalypse.

Your cartoon showing the “New World Odor” currently mounted on the White House was worthy of a retraction. The only odor I could detect was from your editorial page.—Lou Smader, 779 Bluffview Circle, Winona
