“There are approximately 1,010,300 words in the English language, but I could never string enough..”

“There are approximately 1,010,300 words in the English language, but I could never string enough words to properly express how much I want to hit you with a chair” has been printed on many images. “Alexander Hamilton, to Thomas Jefferson” is sometimes written below this.

The meme started in 2014, without any reference to American founding fathers Alexander Hamilton (1755-1804) and Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826). “there are approximately 1,013,913 words in the english language, but I can’t seem to explain how much i want to hit you with a chair” was posted on Twitter by Daniel on February 11, 2014. “there are 1,013,913 words in the eng. language but i could never put any of them together to explain how much i want to hit you with a chair” was posted on Twitter by jay 🍂 on February 12, 2014.

Fact check: No, Alexander Hamilton didn’t tell Thomas Jefferson he wanted to hit him with a chair

Our ruling: False
The claim that Alexander Hamilton told Thomas Jefferson that there weren’t enough words to string together in the English language to express how much he wanted to hit him with a chair is FALSE. USA TODAY could find no reference to the quote, and experts who have written and edited texts about Hamilton said the former treasury secretary did not write it.
